Birth Preparation
Our Birth Preparation sessions are designed to help you feel confident, informed, and empowered as you approach birth. We take the time to discuss your goals and preferences for delivery, along with your medical and family history, pre-existing hypermobility, current bladder and bowel symptoms, past births or injuries, and activity levels. A comprehensive pelvic floor assessment—considering anatomical measures, muscle tone, strength, relaxation, breathing, and vaginal wall mobility—helps us understand your individual needs and birth injury risk.
Together, we develop a personalized plan that supports your body and your birth journey. This may include pelvic floor down-training or strengthening, guidance on birth positions and breathing techniques, and education around perineal massage or the use of an Epi-No if suitable. We also provide early postnatal education to help you feel prepared and supported in your recovery, whether following a vaginal or caesarean birth.
Follow-up appointments are guided by individual presentation and the level of support required. For those planning a vaginal birth, perineal massage education is typically provided around 34 weeks’ gestation (with or without a birth partner), and an early postnatal education session is offered from around 37 weeks to support recovery planning and confidence in the early postpartum period.
We believe the best care comes from collaboration, which is why we work closely with your obstetric care provider to ensure a cohesive, compassionate, and empowering approach—helping you step into birth with confidence and calm.
